What is the Correct Phosphate Level? The ideal phosphate concentration should be kept as close to zero as possible. Trace amounts between 0 and 0.25 mg/L PO4-P are sufficient for the healthy growth of higher plants.
What to Do if the Phosphate Level is Wrong:
- Regular partial water changes with dechlorinated tap water can help maintain low phosphate levels.
- Check the phosphate concentration in tap water to avoid accidental introduction.
- Use Duckweed Control, a liquid solution, to bind phosphate and prevent excessive levels.
How to Perform the Test:
- Ensure the test tube is clean.
- Collect a 5 ml sample of pond water into the test tube.
- Add 5 drops of the phosphate reagent, place the cap on the tube, and mix gently for a few seconds.
- Wait for 5 minutes for the test to develop.
- Remove the cap and look down through the test tube to determine the color.
- Compare the color to the provided color chart to determine the phosphate concentration.

- Bulky items such as drum or bead filters require pallet shipping, starting from £45.00 + VAT.
- Non-bulky orders to mainland UK over £1000 Excluding VAT will be shipped for free, up to a value of £55.00.
- Orders going to remote places such as the Scottish Highlands and Northern Ireland may have different rates (please contact us for details).
- To ensure your privacy, all orders will be shipped with unbranded packaging, without any marketing material.
